Day One: Walker Acts to Support Our Nation's Veterans and Small Businesses
WASHINGTON, DC – In his first legislative vote last night, U.S. Representative Mark Walker (NC-6) supported the bipartisan passage of H.R. 22, the Hire More Heroes Act of 2015, which incentivizes small businesses to hire veterans by excluding them from the Affordable Care Act’s employer mandate threshold.
“Our service men and women deserve our very best – both while in uniform and when they take it off. We need to facilitate the transition back to civilian life by reducing barriers to employment,†said Rep. Walker. “Last year, the Hire More Heroes Act passed with overwhelming bipartisan support (406-1) yet never got to the President’s desk. I am proud that on my first day as a U.S. Representative I could support legislation to help our nation’s heroes and reduce the burden of the President’s healthcare law,†added Walker.
The Hire More Heroes Act received unanimous support in the House of Representatives last night and was passed twice in the House of Representatives’ 113th Session. The Hire More Heroes Act exempts veterans who receive health care through TRICARE or the VA from being counted toward the employer mandate under the Affordable Care Act.
