ICYMI: Walker To Run For Conservative Chairmanship

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representative Mark Walker (NC-06) today announced that he will pursue the Chairmanship of the Republican Study Committee (RSC) in the 115th Congress. The support for his candidacy is already strong and broad-based, including notable members like Reps. Kevin Brady, the Chairman of the Ways and Means Committee, and Virginia Foxx, the dean of the North Carolina Republican delegation.
Founded by notable conservatives in 1973, the RSC is a voluntary committee within Congress that provides legislative analysis and advocacy tools to its members. Past Chairman include Gov. Mike Pence, former Reps. David McIntosh and Sue Myrick, and current Reps. Jim Jordan, Tom Price, and Jeb Hensarling.
For over 30 years, the RSC has promoted “a strong principled legislative agenda that will limit government, strengthen national defense, boost America’s economy, preserve traditional values and balance the budget,” according to its statement of purpose.
“’Put your feet in the right place, then stand firm,” Walker said. “That is an Abraham Lincoln quote that summarizes the role of RSC within the House of Representatives. I am honored by the support we have received and humbled by the opportunity to lead."
“From day one, we have always tried to focus on people, building genuine relationships and bridging traditional political and cultural divides,” Walker added. “Those efforts are bearing fruit locally, as we are engaged in communities and on issues that break conservative stereotypes. They are also bearing fruit in Washington, as we have earned the respect to lead national policy conversations.”
Congressman Walker published a letter to North Carolina’s 6th District on Medium today to announce the run.
