Press Release

GREENSBORO, NC – U.S. Representative Mark Walker (NC-06) and U.S. Representative Alma Adams (NC-12) toured the FedEx Ground hub in Kernersville, North Carolina yesterday. The joint visit included a tour of their recently expanded facilities and a meeting with FedEx employees.

“The FedEx Ground facility in Kernersville is having a positive impact on our community and economy, and I appreciate the local investments FedEx is making in the sixth district,” said Rep. Walker. He added, “I know Rep. Adams and I both value the time we have to visit directly with the hard-working people here in North Carolina so we can best represent them in Washington. Today’s meeting was encouraging as we discussed legislative work we have accomplished in the first six months and also identified shared goals to better serve our community – including working towards a long-term highway bill to improve our local infrastructure.”

“North Carolina’s 12th Congressional District has a 13.8 percent unemployment rate which is double the State and national averages,” said Congresswoman Adams. “I’m glad to see the FedEx Ground Hub in Kernersville employing more than 730 North Carolinians. Today’s visit with Congressman Walker allowed us to meet with FedEx executives and staff to learn more about the operation. What we learned at FedEx will help us in Congress as we seek bipartisan solutions to the unemployment crisis; and as we work to protect and improve local infrastructure and help our businesses thrive.”

FedEx Ground, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp., is one of the leading providers of small-package ground shipping. Through a network of more than 71,000 employees, 560 distribution hubs and local pickup-and-delivery stations, and 42,000 motorized vehicles, the company transports 6.9 million packages a day to customers throughout the U.S. and Canada. In North Carolina, FedEx Ground employs 2,650 people and contracts with nearly 300 independent businesses that employ another 1,500 people.  FedEx Ground operates 14 facilities and leases more than 1.5 million square feet across North Carolina. The Kernersville hub employs over 700 people, spans over 580,000 square feet and is shared by both the 6th and 12th Congressional District of North Carolina. The company reported annual revenue of nearly $13 billion in fiscal year 2015.
