Walker Honors Gene Brown of Greensboro as Community Hero of the Month
GREENSBORO, N.C. – U.S. Representative Mark Walker (R-N.C.) honored Gene Brown as the 6th District Community Hero of the Month for January 2017.
Each month, Rep. Walker awards a constituent, business, or organization in his district for displaying extraordinary acts of service and for making a difference in the lives around them.
Gene Grown is the President and Executive Director of Community Housing Solutions in Greensboro. This non-profit organization repairs homes for low-income homeowners who can’t physically or financially afford to do so themselves. With a volunteer force of over 800 individuals, Community Housing Solutions has changed lives and saved many families from homelessness. These repair projects restore hope and dignity for families in need in Guilford County. Most recently, the organization has joined with Cone Health and the National Center for Healthy Housing to bring assistance to seniors in need with home repair and home-based health care.
“Gene is an example of someone who has brought considerable talent, vision, and passion to an identified need in our community," Walker said. "I’m inspired by his innovative work and the way he empowers those in need.”
Brown was presented with a certificate and a flag flown over the U.S. Capitol.
