GREENSBORO, N.C. – U.S. Representative Mark Walker (NC-06) this week honored Greensboro’s Jodi Lorenzo-Shibley as the Sixth District Community Hero of the Month for March, 2017.

Each month, Rep. Walker awards a constituent, business, or organization in his district for displaying extraordinary acts of service and for making a difference in the lives around them.

Jodi Lorenzo-Schibley is the Chief Executive Director and Executive Director of Sanctuary House, which houses a psychiatric rehabilitation program for adults with mental illness.  She has been with Sanctuary House since its inception. Under her able leadership, it has become a place that serves more than 70 individuals a day through a variety of programming options. Additionally, Jodi is also very involved in the community.  She serves on many boards and committees that focus on mental health and economic development.

You can learn more about Jodi here in an article in the Triad Business Journal honoring her as one of the "40 Leaders Under Forty" The recognition did not deter her mission though. Jodi's nominator writes, "for her it wasn’t about a recognition personally, but rather to facilitate greater communication surrounding mental health.  She has been able to leverage this prestigious award to continue to raise community awareness.  Additionally, this accolade for Sanctuary House increased opportunities for funding and building greater credibility for the nonprofit."

“Jodi is an inspiring example of how one person can change many lives," Walker said. "She is a tireless advocate for the needs of individuals with mental illness, and is an important voice for some of the most vulnerable in North Carolina. She plays an important role in our community, and is facilitating much-needed conversations about mental health.”

Jodi was presented with a certificate and a flag flown over the U.S. Capitol.
