Walker Honors Scott Silknitter of Greensboro as July Community Hero of the Month
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representative Mark Walker (R-N.C.) honored caregiving expert Scott Silknitter as the Sixth District Community Hero of the Month for July 2017.
Each month, Walker awards a constituent, business, or organization in his district for displaying extraordinary acts of service and for making a difference in the lives around them.
Scott Silknitter is on a mission to provide caregiving information and resources to individuals around the world. His knowledge and passion for this issue stem from caring for his father through a 25-year fight with Parkinson’s and Dementia, and has developed into a company that creates products and programs for families dealing with long-term care needs. Scott is also an author, speaker, and cancer survivor. He recently finished a program that saw over 2,000 caregiving books distributed to families in need through Senior Resources of Guilford.
"It was my privilege to join Scott Silknitter for one if his Caregiving 101 discussions last month," Walker said. "I was impressed with his compassion for others, and his willingness to help people through what he learned in caring for his own father during difficult times. Because of Scott’s contributions, many individuals now have the information and resources they need as they care for family members with unique, long-term needs.”
Silknitter was presented with a certificate and a flag flown over the U.S. Capitol during his families visit to Washington, D.C. The presentation, held in Walker's Washington office, had the attendance of Silknitter's wife Darlene, and his two children, Tommy and Kathryn. They were also given a tour of the Capitol.
