Walker on IRS Commissioner Term Ending: Hope "His Head is Not Held High"
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representative Mark Walker (R-N.C.) today released the following statement after President Trump announced he intends to designate Assistant Secretary for Tax Policy David Kautter as Acting Commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service:
“It’s a failure of government that IRS Commissioner John Koskinen will be able to serve his full tenure after consistently abusing the public trust, lying to Congress, and obstructing investigations. I can only hope that as he leaves the IRS building, his head is not held high and that he will be remembered as empowering the agency’s extensive actions of political abuse. Dishonorable bureaucrats like Koskinen highlight another reason tax reform is critical and urgent – to defang an agency that has been used as a political weapon.
“I look forward working with the Administration and meeting with Mr. Kautter as soon as possible to discuss his plans to fix the IRS.”
