Walker Names Eden Santa Clause Community Hero Of The Month
WENTWORTH, N.C. – U.S. Representative Mark Walker (NC-06) last week recognized Mr. William “Bill” Moody of Eden as the Sixth District Community Hero of the Month for December 2016.
“Our office takes great pride in recognizing members of our community who go above and beyond the call of duty to serve others,” Walker said. “For over a decade, Bill Moody has pledged his time to provide a joyful Christmas for emotionally, physically and mentally challenged children all across North Carolina. In light of the season, I’m honored to present Bill with this small token of our appreciation for his many hours dedicated to giving children the gift of joy, hope and laughter,” Walker added.
“When I started around ten years ago as Santa Claus, I quickly discovered I had been given a unique gift to the least understood children in society,” Moody said. “I have never taken a single penny from any appearance as Santa Claus. I have been blessed with a look and the personality to make children happy and it isn’t right to profit from it. God has been good to me and I need to return His blessings to those I meet,” Moody added.
Moody has played the role of Santa Claus for over a decade. He primarily works through the Friendship Ministry at Osborne Baptist Church in Eden, NC, which is an organization for emotionally, physically and mentally challenged people, and the Family Support Network of Greater Forsyth County. Moody makes appearances for companies and charges a fee that is entirely directed toward charities, such as the Toys-for-Tots program.
Walker presented Moody a certificate and a flag flown over the U.S. Capitol Building in his honor at a small ceremony this morning in the Rockingham County Board of Commissioners’ Chambers.
