Walker Responds to Supreme Court's Ruling on Marriage

Press Release

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Representative Mark Walker (NC-06) issued the following statement regarding the Supreme Court’s ruling in Obergefell v. Hodges.

“Today, the Supreme Court in Obergefell v. Hodges made a decision to overrule our democratic process and our foundational individual freedoms.

Marriage issues have been given to the states under the 10th amendment and the democratic process.  Thus, this decision should have been left to the people—not by unelected judges in Washington.

America was founded on the idea of freedom – people should be free to believe and live according to those beliefs.

My job is to represent all people regardless of faith, gender, race or any other distinction.  I will continue to do so by ensuring that the government does not penalize people, schools, non-profits or other organizations for what they believe.

May God provide the path and may we have the courage to follow.”
