What Has Changed Senator Schumer?

Should the government be shut down over the DACA resolution? President Trump and members of Congress have acknowledged that many of these individuals came to this country through no fault of their own. I’ve met with these adult DACA recipients both in D.C. and my district. We are on record that we are willing to work on a resolution, but here's the question: Is it not common sense that we implement a plan that does not create another DACA crisis?
The Republican asks for border security including areas of wall building, ending chain migration and ending the visa lottery program would go a long way to prevent future issues. Don’t forget that November’s New York City terrorist attacker entered through the lottery program. The most interesting aspect of this debate is that Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden, Chuck Schumer and Barack Obama all voted for increasing border security – including THE WALL. Hillary Clinton once stated, "We have to send a clear message, just because your child gets across the border, that doesn’t mean the child gets to stay. So, we don’t want to send a message that is contrary to our laws or will encourage more children to make that dangerous journey.”
Now, Democrats are threatening to shut down the government over legislation that many of them once voted for and supported. Chuck Schumer remarked that shutting down the government over immigration would deliver a severe blow to our economy – "it would be government chaos." What’s changed Chuck?
Refusing to vote for the spending bill could be a dangerous step for the Democrats. Here’s why: their high stakes game puts our military and defense capabilities on the line. Did you know the U.S. Navy has about half of its planes and jets unable to fly because of “deferred maintenance” under the previous administration? We also are short on countermeasures against intercontinental ballistic missiles from countries from the East. I have stood in the empty missile silos in Alaska where our missile defense capabilities should be housed. This is all the more concerning considering that tensions are at a near all-time high with North Korea and Iran.
We are three decades into the illegal immigration dilemma, and we must stop the human trafficking, the deadly drugs and the abuse we’ve seen in the past. I am hoping our Democrat friends will return to their former position and let’s do what is best for the American people.
