Veteran John Del Roso Brought to Tears with Surprise American Flag Presentation
Blog Post by Veteran Outreach Liaison Cory Spoor
Today is what truly makes this job incredible.
Over the past two months, I was fortunate enough to get to know World War II Veteran John Del Roso who currently resides at Heritage Greens Senior Living Facility.
He is a combat-hardened war hero who saw plenty of action in Europe, most notably at Omaha Beach and the Battle of the Bulge. I can’t even begin to fathom what he went through.
Although he has seen the many horrors of war, you would not know it due to his friendly demeanor and bubbly attitude.
Today was Mr. Del Roso’s final day living in the area before leaving with his family to enjoy the weather in Florida.
A special going away party was thrown for him.
It was easy to see how well liked and respected this man was by the size of the crowd and how highly they spoke of him.
I was honored to surprise him with an American Flag that was flown over the Capitol in his honor.
Mr. Del Roso was extremely appreciative to the point of tears.
He informed me that he would never forget what we have done for him.
Mr. Del Roso asked me to stay in contact and hopefully visit him in Florida some time.
As a veteran who has always looked up to men like him, this was just as special for me as it was for him.
